Our Work

Supporting individuals and families as they build lives they are proud of in theirnew communities.

Through individually-tailored case management and group programming, integration programs ensure new neighbors have the tools they need to navigate complex systems like health care, achieve personal and professional goals, and build critical community connections to thrive and belong.

CWS Harrisburg’s crucial Integration programs are less reliant on federal funding. These programs help clients pursue self-sufficiency through mental health referrals, social service navigation, family support, and application assistance. Services are personalized to help refugees overcome barriers and contribute to resilient communities.

Employment support—like resume writing, job fairs, and interview preparation—is now heavily volunteer-dependent. While many clients gain economic stability, others need support to address barriers to social determinants of health, including isolation, health challenges, lack of childcare, and complex family dynamics.

All these programs require participating clients to co-create their plan for self-sufficiency.

Preferred Communities Intensive Case Management Program

Preferred Communities Intensive Case Management (PC-ICM) delivers services for the most vulnerable of refugees who have proven barriers that make it challenging for them to become fully self-sufficient. Special need and vulnerable groups who are eligible for services include the disabled; youth and young adults without parents; single parents and women at risk; the elderly; refugees experiencing trauma and PTSD; survivors of torture, and LGBT clients, among others. Clients receive intensive case management and are deemed to have reached self-sufficiency once they meet the goals that they set for themselves at the beginning of the service period, find stability in areas affected by their vulnerabilities, and are able to live independently of agency services.

Eligibility: Disabled; Youth and Young Adults Without Parents; Single Parents and Women at Risk; the Elderly; Refugees Experiencing Trauma and PTSD; Survivors of Torture, and LGBT Clients.
